Electrolysis treatments have been around since the early 1800's. Electrolysis is a popular form of permanent hair removal and requires multiple sessions to achieve great results.
It treats only the hair follicle without damaging surrounding skin and can be performed on any skin colour and any size and color of hair.
How does it work?
An electric current is applied with a very fine needle shaped electrode, or a metal probe into each hair follicle to destroy the root. At Toronto Dermatology Centre, we use disposable sterile needles and sterile tweezers.
Electrolysis effectively treats fine hair and grey, blonde and white hair where lasers are much less effective (due to absence of pigment in these hairs).
Hair grows in different stages: growing, resting, and shedding. At Toronto Dermatology Centre, laser hair removal is considered the most effective method for rapid and gentle removal of unwanted brown or black hair with fewer treatments and less discomfort. Electrolysis is a great for eyebrows since laser hair removal cannot be performed on eyebrows and to eliminate the fine, straggly hair that lack colour (blonde, white and grays).
There are two factors that determine results: first, the equipment used & current that is applied via a fine wire filament, also known as an electrolysis needle, and the second is the skilled electrologist who has precise accuracy of insertion for each and every hair follicle.
At Toronto Dermatology Centre we will specifically recommend for you the most effective and safest treatment depending on your particular situation. This may be laser hair removal or electrolysis, or a oral hormonal treatment (blood tests may be ordered to assess for a hormonal cause of excess hair) or hair reduction cream, or sometimes a combination of a few of these modalities.
