New study highlights factors that improve and worsen acne
December 22, 2012

A recent study published in the December 2012 issue of the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology by a group of Italian dermatologists has shown that moderate to severe acne was strongly associated with a family history of acne in first degree relatives. The risk of developing moderate to severe acne was lower in those patients who had a lower body weight; this was especially the case for male patients. There was no association found between acne and smoking, although the risk of developing acne was higher in those with increased milk consumption. The association between milk and acne was most marked for skim milk. Interestingly, an association between eating more fish and having less acne was observed. Other foods such as red meat, fruits and vegetables, chocolate, cakes and sweets, breads and pasta, cheese and yoghurt were not associated with acne.

Get your skin ready for the holiday parties!
December 19, 2012

Tis the Season to celebrate. Whether it is a holiday party, staff dinner or New Year’s Eve shindig, this is the time to be putting our best face forward. After a facial or any treatment to give our skin that healthy holiday glow, it is a shame to cover it up with pore-clogging make up. Well it doesn't have to be that way anymore....

Your eyes are one of the first things people see when they look at you. Unfortunately they can also be the first area to show the signs of aging. Aging eyes can make you appear tired, stressed and older than you really are. It is important to choose the right eye care to help prevent and reverse signs of aging so you can put your best face forward. Specific eye-area issues vary from person to person, and range from dark under eye circles and puffiness to sagging skin, crepiness and wrinkles. There are a variety of medical grade topical treatments that help restore your eyes to a more youthful state....

Skin resolutions for the New Year!
December 07, 2012

As December ascends upon us, we start to think of New Year’s resolutions. Some to make, a few to break, but all start with an honest agenda to improve ourselves. We often think of increasing exercise, losing weight or drinking more water when it comes to New Year’s resolutions. Maybe we should be focusing on the health of our skin. It is the largest organ - and one of the easiest giveaways of our health and age - so why not make 2013 the start of something beautiful?...

Warts, corns and calluses treated quickly and effectively at Toronto Dermatology Centre
December 04, 2012
Did you know that the treatment of plantar warts (bottom of foot) and genital warts are covered by OHIP, and the management of corns and calluses as well? We have seen countless patients that had been paying significant sums of money out of pocket for chiropodist or podiatrist treatment of these lesions, which OHIP pays for (free) when performed at a physician's office. Warts are caused by the human papilloma virus (HPV) of which there are over 100 viral strains that have been identified....

How to fight aging and acne at the same time!
November 30, 2012

Yesterday morning when I looked into my 12 x magnified, multi-level lit mirror (which was, in my justified mind, purchased only to apply make-up or tweeze my eyebrows), what did I find but a pimple. A big pimple, filled with pus, irritatingly tender and, yes, I think it was mocking me. How is it that a woman who is in her 40's, has to worry not only about anti- aging, but acne/ pimples at the same time?...
